Al Dhaid Municipality has nabbed a man who gave 'sleepless nights' to residents of Suhailah area in Al Dhaid.

The residents of the area who were annoyed by noise of digging and could not figure out the source of the noise took the matter to the municipality. Inspectors launched an intense search to determine the source of the noisy digging, and eventually caught the man, who belongs to a company from a nearby emirate. The man was digging a well to sell drinking water without any consent from the authorities.

He comes everyday at night while residents were sleeping to carry out the digging of well.

"Wells without any authorisation are serious violation that we would not tolerate," said Ali Al Tunaiji, Director of Al Dhaid Municipality.

Al Tunaiji added that the suspect has been referred to the concerned authority for violating the law which protects the public interest and wastage of ground water.

He warned that unauthorised well digging has become an issue and it can cause ground water to dry up and also increase its salinity. The municipality director urged the public to cooperate by reporting digging activities of wells in order to protect ground water, the environment and health.

He added that the efforts of inspectors who work in the city round the clock have minimised many illegal and banned activities.
