A total of 35 special forces teams from 18 Arab and foreign countries are taking part in the fifth annual Warrior Competition, which opened on Sunday.
Organised by the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF) and the King Abdullah II Special Operations Training Centre, the competition showcases the skills of counter-terrorism teams and special forces from around the world, according to a statement issued by the JAF’s morale guidance unit.
The competition is being held at the centre. “The Warrior competition is designed to show the endurance, patience, and teamwork of the participants,” said Lt. Col. Mahmoud Shdeifat of the morale guidance unit.
The contest includes morning and evening events that test different skills such as shooting from various ranges, hostage rescue, counterterrorism operations, and aircraft and building raids.
This year’s competition includes 12 new events, some of which test the contestants’ driving and fighting skills under unusual conditions, according to organisers.
International referees experienced in the fields of marksmanship, counter-terrorism operations and special operations training will be judging the competition. High safety measures are taken, where all competitors are asked to empty their weapons before each event and abide by the required safety measures, organisers said.
