An auction for mobile phone numbers by UAE telecom firm du has earned more than Dh7.1 million.
A number ending in 1111 was auctioned for Dh2,550,000 (more than$694,000) while another ending in 0000 sold for Dh1,010,000 (approximtaely $275,000).
The auction saw 50 exclusive packages sold for a combined Dh7,114,000 (more than $1,900,000).
Du allocated part of the proceeds to Al Jalila Foundation’s projects in medical research.
Ahmad Abu Rahima, executive vice-president, government relations for du, said the auction “falls under our continued efforts to transform the corporate social responsibility domain”.
