"Taxi drivers are just doing their job and should not be subject to this kind of vile, racist, abuse."
"Taxi drivers are just doing their job and should not be subject to this kind of vile, racist, abuse."

Shocking footage shows the moment a racist passenger threatened to burn a Muslim taxi driver.

The terrified victim filmed the incident on his mobile phone, after he picked up the man and two friends in Derby city centre.

But just minutes after they set off, the ginger-haired man launched an unprovoked tirade, shouting 'every sane-thinking white person in this country hates Muslims' and 'all Muslims should burn'.

He then tells the driver to 'f*** off back to Syria or wherever you f****** belong'.

The 58-year-old driver, who didn't want to be named, can be heard desperately trying to diffuse the situation as the abuse escalates.
The other two passengers sat silently throughout the incident, which happened at around midnight on December 30 2015.

As the abuse continues, the driver stops the taxi and tells the men to get out. The trio leave the taxi and walk away without paying.

The 40-second video has been passed to Derbyshire police, who have launched an appeal to find the culprit.

The victim, a father-of-four who has worked as a taxi driver in Derby for 25 years, said: 'When I let them in they were fine.
'They got in and started eating takeaway chicken. I could tell they'd had a drink but they weren't drunk.

'But as soon as we started to move the guy asked me if I watched the news about terrorism and how did that make me feel.

'I said I was to busy working to worry about that stuff but he asked me again three times. Then he just started on me for whatever reason.

'I tried to ignore him and he said "all Muslims should be burned". Then he said: "I am going to burn you tonight".

'That phrase terrified me. It sent a chill down my bones so I switched on my camera.

'The language was disgusting and the things he was saying were just vile. I am not easily frightened, but this frightened me.

'I was trying really hard to calm things down because if I had argued with him it would have turned violent. Thank God it didn't.
'They were only in my car for about five minutes.

'I moved to the UK when I was eight. I have had people make racist remarks to me before, but never as personal as that.

'I really felt that he meant those words and I can imagine him carrying this threat out if he's not caught.'

A spokesman for Derbyshire Police said: 'We have circulated the image of the man and the footage to our officers.

'We welcome the footage being circulated more widely as we seek to identify the passenger.'

The victim's nephew added: 'Taxi drivers are just doing their job and should not be subject to this kind of vile, racist, abuse.

'What my uncle experienced left him frightened and shaken. No one should have to go through what he did.'
