Residents of Wadi Dawasir, an agricultural town in Riyadh province, panicked when they saw a strange animal crawling up the street on Sunday. They immediately informed the Civil Defense, which dispatched rescue teams to the sight. The residents could not identify the slow-moving animal and thought it could be a dangerous creature.
Capt. Mohammed Al-Hammadi, Civil Defense spokesman, said when their teams arrived at the scene, they discovered that the “strange animal” was only an aging tortoise covered with mud.
He said a veterinarian checked the tortoise and gave it necessary veterinary care before it was handed over to wildlife authorities.
