Khaberni reports that Jordanian customs officers in Wadi Araba foiled the smuggling of a large quantity of false eyelashes in Aqaba on their way to Amman.

A source from the Jordanian customs told Khaberni that members of the Wadi Araba customs stopped the smuggling of large quantities of false eyelashes, lighters, and Turkish dresses outside Aqaba on their way to Amman.

The seized items are now in the custody of Jordanian authorities, who are conducting an investigation into the smuggling.

Makeup and beauty products are big business in the Middle East. Women in Saudi Arabia spend, on average, close to $4,000 on cosmetics annually. Many western brands are difficult to find, or not sold at all, in the Middle East - which increases the demand and the lengths people will go to acquire certain products.
