A 71-year-old German man survived after he fell from a 40-meter-height while touring a mountain in the Austrian state of Tyrol.
Austrian police announced on Saturday that the man suffered a head injury and was hospitalized.
According to police reports, the man fell from a ramp and a rocky surface, and settled unconscious in a riverbed.
Due to bad weather conditions, the victim could not be rescued by helicopter. Four rescuers and a police officer therefore climbed up to reach him at about a 2,000-meter altitude.
They then managed to transport him by helicopter to the valley.
According to the German news agency, the elderly man was accompanied by a German group as they climbed the mountainous area.
The group was taken by helicopter to the valley after the weather improved.
