ALBAWABA - Recent reports revealed that Ookla's Speedtest and Downdetector were sold to consulting and IT services provider Accenture for $1.2 billion in a deal with Ziff Davis.
The free platforms allow hundreds of millions of daily internet users to check their speeds and determine whether their favorite website is down.

According to Reuters, Ziff Davis sold Ookla to focus on its other projects, including IGN, Mashable, Everyday Health, and iBuyNewCar. Moreover, the report indicates that Accenture will also acquire Ekahau and RootMetrics. However, Ziff Davis will continue to manage the services mentioned above until the deal is closed.
This might've come after the company laid off many of its experienced staff from Eurogamer and reduced VG247 to a small game guide website, as reported by Engadget.
Ziff Davis acquired Ookla for $15 million in 2014. Reports indicate that it benefited the most during the rollout of 5G and increased bandwidth during the pandemic. Reuters notes that the connectivity generated a whopping $231 million in 2025.
