UAE Ministry of Health Hosts Second Meeting of GCC’s Central Registration Committee for Medical Devices and Manufacturers

The Ministry of Health and Prevention recently hosted the second meeting of the GCC Health Council’s Central Registration Committee for Medical Devices and their Manufacturers in Dubai under the chairmanship of H.E. Dr. Amin Hussein Al Amiri, the Ministry’s Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Policy and Licensing. Also present during the meeting were Dr. Hajed bin Mohammed, Deputy Director General of the GCC Health Council, and other high-level representatives from the member countries.
H.E. Dr. Al Amiri said: “Following the outstanding success of the Gulf Commission for Registration and Pricing, the GCC countries have decided to form a joint committee governing the central registration of medical devices and concerned manufacturers. The committee regulates and standardizes the purchase of medical devices in line with international standards to guarantee the optimal selection of supplies and medical equipment being used in the region.”
The committee reviewed the recommendations made by the Executive Committee members. The recommendations include registration of medical devices and their manufacturers; preparation of common registration regulations, evidence presentation; and determination of registration fees.
The attendees also studied the request of several companies to add more items to the Health Council’s list of approved products. They evaluated the submitted documents in line with the regulations of the Registration Committee as well as the findings of manufacturing sites’ inspection reports. The meeting also focused on new applications and renewals submitted by various companies, taking into consideration the various views of member countries regarding the proposed registration regulations, evidence presentation, fees, local medical device classifications per country, and inspections follow up communication with the sites.
