Orange Foundation nominates Nour Al Imam for the 2015 “Women for Change” Award

Orange Jordan announced that Jordanian women’s rights activist, Nour Al Emam, was recently nominated for the 2015 “Women for Change” Award, which is a joint venture between Orange Foundation and the Women’s Forum for the Economy and Society.
The award, which comes with a €25,000 grant, aims to recognize women who are agents of change and drivers of growth, providing them with the resources to expand their initiatives to help the female members of their community. Four other candidates from Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and Spain were nominated for the 2015 running, with the winner to be selected by public votes submitted via Orange Foundation’s website.
The 2015 “Women for Change” Award called upon applicants to submit proposals for projects that further the cause of women’s empowerment in their respective communities. With a background in law and an extensive track record in women’s rights activism, Emam proposed an idea for a documentary film that serves to raise awareness on key issues relevant to the cause on a local scale, such as citizenship rights, female representation in government, equal employment opportunities and others. The film, titled “Women’s Voice for Equality,” was proposed as a foundation for a national campaign that she hopes will garner public interest and generate a wave of change on both social and legislative levels.
"When it comes to women's empowerment, Jordan has made substantial strides over the past two decades," commented Emam. "However, women's participation in sustainable development and policymaking remains fairly low, with only 12 to 13 percent of women currently contributing to the local economy, and only 6.7 percent of senior state positions occupied by women. My hope through this documentary is to initiate a national campaign that will help us bridge this divide by underscoring the important role played by women in socioeconomic development and the immeasurable benefit that equal rights will have on our cultural evolution as a whole."
As part of the award’s selection process, Orange Foundation has published a video on its website explaining Emam’s vision and objectives. In the video, Emam demonstrates her expertise in the field of law, on which she intends to leverage in order to further the cause of women’s rights on a policy level. Both the video and the voting page can be accessed at: www.fondationorange.com/Nour-Al-Emam-2743.“It gives us all a great sense of pride to support a woman as passionate and committed as Nour Al Emam,” commented Orange Jordan’s CEO, Jerome Henique. “Her vision and expertise make her an ideal candidate to make a real and measurable difference in the lives of Jordanian women nationwide, particularly given the fact that she is tackling the issue from a grassroots level by raising awareness, redefining stereotypes and ensuring that policies evolve to support this important cause. We therefore call upon all Jordanians to vote for her on the Orange Foundation website and to encourage their families and friends to do the same.”
It is worth noting that this initiative falls directly in line with Orange Jordan’s Essentials 2020 strategy, which places both the customer and the community at its heart.
