Under the supervision of Executive Chef Manoj Aswal, the Kempinski Hotel Ajman culinary team of five participated in the First Syrian Salon Competition 2017 on 26 August at the Cove Rotana, Ras Al Khaimah.
The competition reunited 104 chefs from the whole of the UAE and 18 judges from the Emirates Culinary Guild and Syrian Culinary Guild. Chef Majed Al Sabagh, President of the Syrian Culinary Guild, gave us some insights into the association’s vision: “The highlight of this first edition is to emphasise the Syrian cuisine and showcase it to the UAE.
Also, we aim to educate our local chefs to elevate their cooking style to worldwide standards in order to compete with other countries in the near future.” Then added: “We plan on having such a culinary competition once a year, promoting the Syrian cuisine and encouraging a generation of new chefs to lead new culinary concepts.”
The culinary team of Kempinski Hotel Ajman entered the competition in four categories: traditional vs modern Syrian cuisine, Live Cooking dressing, Kibbeh assortment and dessert assortment. Their outstanding performance allowed them to win five bronze medals and one silver medal – a great achievement, recognising the technique, quality, taste and creativity of their dishes.
