Future HCT-Dubai engineers learn about advances in smarter mobility with Shell

On the cutting edge of local advances in science and technology, the Higher Colleges of Technology-Dubai, Men’s Campus (HCT-Dubai) recently concluded its annual Technology and Energy seminar with global energy leader Shell.

Over 80 engineering students from HCT-Dubai, Men’s Campus attended the seminar. Addressing Dubai’s future energy leaders, Shell Markets Middle East General Manager, Mr. Richard Jory, shared insights on Shell’s innovation and focus on smarter mobility.

Smarter mobility is at the center of Shell’s Eco-Marathon, a unique competition that challenges university and college students from around the world to design, build and test their ultra energy-efficient vehicles, using their knowledge of science and engineering. HCT Dubai will be competing in the next edition of this prestigious competition to create the cars of the future.

“These talks bring together practising engineers and engineering students to gather insight into the challenges the industry faces regarding energy conservation and the use of renewable energies. Shell is at the forefront of the energy challenge and is a valuable partner in developing the learning experience for our students,” said Mr. Mark Hale, Associate Dean of Engineering at HCT-Dubai.

“Today’s students are tomorrow’s industry leaders. In a country that nurtures scientific progress, talented students will play a significant role in shaping the future of the UAE and the region. Initiatives such as the Shell Eco-Marathon are designed to provide the youth with a glimpse into the future of sustainable mobility and inspire them to push the boundaries of fuel efficiency through developing smarter products to provide clean and efficient transport,” said Mr. Jory.

Participants in the Shell Eco-marathon can use any conventionally available energy source including fuels such as diesel, gasoline and Gas-to-Liquids (GTL), as well as alternative fuels such as hydrogen, ethanol, solar and battery electricity.
There are two broad categories of vehicles in the competition, the prototype category, which is a futuristic design or similitude of what is yet to come in the field of automobile engineering, and the urban category, which is quite open for mass-production and more road-legal.



The HCT-Dubai is participating in the global Shell Eco-marathon challenge along side the Abu Dhabi Men’s College, the American University of Dubai and student teams from Qatar, Egypt, Oman and Lebanon.
