Ernst & Young to support NACA

Yuthar Al Rawahy, Founder & Chairperson of the National Association for Cancer Awareness (NACA), recently conducted a seminar on cancer awareness for the employees of Ernst & Young Muscat.

NACA works with numerous organizations and other stakeholders to see Oman free of advanced cancers and to minimize the impact of the early stages of cancer. Key activities undertaken by NACA include monthly CBE, screening and support groups for cancer patients, cancer survivors and family members. They also conduct the annual cancer walkathon and attend festivals where they can build awareness such as the Muscat festival, the Khareef festival and other in-mall events. In addition to circulating quarterly newsletters, NACA holds regular lectures at schools (public and private) and at various organizations.

Yuthar Al Rawahy said: “In the past, cancer was thought to be uncurable, but with increased awareness, the disease is no longer considered an inevitable death sentence in Oman and its taboo stature is now a thing of the past. It is becoming more accepted as a curable disease if addressed early and not ignored out of fear. People are slowly recognizing the importance of early detection and the effectiveness of breast cancer screening.”

Ahmed also confirmed to Yuthar that Ernst & Young would pay the annual subscription and encourage all of their staff to become members of NACA. In addition, Ahmed announced that Ernst & Young staff would volunteer to support NACA’s activities.
