A group of 150 employees at  Dubai Aluminium, DUBAL, the state-owned corporation that operates the world’s largest aluminium smelter using pre-bake anode technology – were honoured during a graduation ceremony held on the DUBAL site in Jebel Ali on Tuesday 20 November 2012. The event marked the culmination of many months’ work to complete diverse courses accredited by the UK-based Institute of Leadership and Management, ILM, all of which are delivered in-house by DUBAL’s Performance Management and Career Development department, through the ILM-certified DUBAL Training Centre, DTC.

More than 70 members of DUBAL management attended the event, at which Charles Elvin, CEO, ILM, and Amanda Kelleher, Head of Operations, Middle East & North Africa, ILM, were guests of honour. Elvin delivered a short speech during the graduation ceremony, and presented an award to DUBAL to mark 30 years of leadership and management training delivery in association with ILM – thereby acknowledging DUBAL’s long-standing tradition of delivering the highest quality development opportunities for employees so as to meet the business’ needs and maintain a competitive advantage, while simultaneously enabling employees to achieve their personal potential and fulfil their career aspirations.

Indeed, DUBAL is fairly unique in that most, if not all, of the company’s top level management are products of the structured management development programmes offered by the DTC. These include programmes for employees from supervisory level, through first line management to middle and senior management positions; and workshops designed to impart effective communication skills, feedback and mentoring, and other important management competencies. The graduates honoured on 20 November comprised  employees who have most recently completed DUBAL’s Graduate Trainee Future Leaders programme, First Line Managers DUBAL Level 1, and Middle Management Skills Workshop.

Commenting on the award from ILM, Sultan Al Sabri (Vice President: Human Resources & Organisational Effectiveness) said: “DUBAL is very proud to be associated with ILM, and places high regard on the relationship that has been nurtured over the past three decades. We share many common values, the most important being an ongoing quest to maintain superior quality training and to consistently link learning opportunities to the needs of our business.”
