Department of Municipal Affairs signs Memorandum of Understanding with Ordnance Survey International
As a step to enhance cooperation and exchange knowledge and experience in the field of geospatial information and authoritative mapping, the Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ordnance Survey International.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by H.E. Engineer Ahmed Mohamed Al Shareef the Under Secretary of the DMA and Dr. Vanessa Lawrence CB, Director General and Chief Executive of Ordnance Survey Great Britain; the parent organization of Ordnance Survey International. The signing took place during a ceremony attended by officials from both organizations at the DMA headquarters in Abu Dhabi.
The Memorandum of Understanding aligns with the long-term desire of both parties to establish a strategic framework and explore new cooperation opportunities in the field of geospatial information management. Potential collaboration areas include the following; development of geospatial strategy and policy, project roadmaps and delivery, process optimization, utilization of geospatial data to support business processes, geospatial data architectures, address infrastructure, 3D and Building Information Models (BIM), capability and capacity building, open standards and geodetic network infrastructure. In addition to that, both parties will exchange knowledge and share learning experiences through training programs. Ordnance Survey International is providing technology- and vendor-independent government to government advisory services to DMA.
This MoU aligns with the economic growth and comprehensive development taking place in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi that can be underpinned by high quality, authoritative mapping. The cooperation will enhance geospatial services provided by the municipal system to the residents and strategic partners in the public and private sectors.
