ADM Holds ‘Our Swimming Pools’ Initiative in Bahia

Abu Dhabi City Municipality organized a social recreational sports event in the Swimming Pool No. 2 in Bahia, as part of this year’s agenda of events. The event aims to nurture an enjoyable, recreational and sports environment for women and children, and delight residents through such recreational activities. It is also intended to enhance social interaction among participants, and utilize such events to disseminate positive messages and promote a sense of societal responsibility.

This social event stems from the keenness of the Urban Planning and Municipalities Department - Abu Dhabi City Municipality to diversify recreational options, and offer recreational venues for community members especially women & children. This event also comes within the framework of the Municipality's efforts to establish healthy community values & behaviors, establish interaction, cooperation and partnership between the Municipality and the community in order to raise health awareness and bolster the importance of sport as a positive activity, and an effective, social & purposeful norm.

The ‘Our Swimming Pools’ initiative is part of a series of social, sports and recreational activities where the Municipality has set up a plan to stage scores of activities in partnership with the community. The aim is to activate health & sports values and encourage community members to render sport an integral part of their culture and healthy habits.

The Municipality was also keen to include many recreational activities and coloring workshops for children. The Women's Police of Rahba Police Station participated in organizing the event, while the Medical Cosmetic Hospital offered free consultations and medical tests for women and children.

The event also aimed to activate the Municipality’s public facilities and utilized them to serve and bring happiness to community members by organizing a diverse array of recreational, educational, directional and communal events.

The event has attracted more than 1,000 women and children in addition to hordes of visitors who interacted with suspenseful shows and spots. The event has increased the number of leisure park visitors and enhanced social cohesion among the residents of the areas.

In addition, the Municipality paid great attention to the productive families, by holding a Productive Families’ Exhibition as part of the event. These initiatives are part of the Community Charitable Markets Project for areas beyond Abu Dhabi in order to support productive families and provide them with an appropriate venue to market their products, besides incentivizing productivity among youth. The initiative also reflects Municipality’s commitment to translate the meaning of the humanitarian and charitable initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, who declared 2017 as the 'Year of Giving'.

These initiatives also echo the Municipality’s commitment to support community segments, and utilize municipal facilities & services in serving & delighting the community. Such positive and purposeful events contribute to bolstering social ties and providing an appropriate environment for marketing products of Emirati families in such recreational events. The events also avail productive families the opportunity to improve their income and diversify their sources of livelihood through retail trade, especially in local handicrafts, besides providing a safe recreational atmosphere for family members.
