Gulf Air and Olympic Airways are to cooperate on daily code shared services to Sydney that are scheduled to start on November 23 this year. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and a code share agreement ratifying the venture were signed at Olympic Airways Headquarters in Athens on June 26 during a two-day visit by a senior Gulf Air delegation.
In terms of the code share agreement, Gulf Air will operate non-stop daily services between Athens and Bahrain to give passengers from Greece a brief connection of just over an hour to the Sydney service, which is routed via Singapore.
Gulf Air stands to benefit from access to Olympic Airways sales and distribution network and the large market of visiting friends and relatives (VFR) who travel to Australia annually from Greece.
Gulf Air was founded in 1950. Today, it is owned by the governments of Britain, Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and is only truly pan Gulf airline in the region. The airlines network stretches from Europe to Asia and covers 43 cities in 32 countries. The fleet is one of the most modern in the Middle East and comprises 33 aircraft. — (menareport.com)
