Safwat El Sherif, the former leader of the pro-Mubarak National Democratic Party, is said to have a sex tape of Gamal Mubarak, the son of ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. The sex tape is rumored to show Gamal with an unnamed Englishwoman. If the existence of this tape proves to be true, despite not being the best news for Gamal's marriage, it would finally dispel the longstanding and unconfirmed rumors that Gamal is a homosexual. El Sherif acquired the sex tape while Gamal Mubarak was in England.
According to Arabic sources, El Sherif hired a British security company called Hawk to provide surveillance of members of the Mubarak family and other high-ranking regime members on their visits to England.
El Sherif was a longstanding member of Egypt's intelligence services and was most likely acquiring the videos as a source of blackmail and as an insurance policy in case of if he ever ran afoul of the regime. Both El Sherif and Gamal are currently awaiting trial on August 3rd. Both played a large role in the attempt to crush the Revolution in Tahrir Square.
This is not the first time that sex tapes have played an important role in discrediting an enemy in Egyptian politics. Suzanne Mubarak, the wife of the former Egyptian leader, was rumored to have been the one behind the sex tapes that were released of the famous Egyptian dancer Dina with Hossam Abul-Fotouh, an Egyptian businessman who was critical of the regime.
