German Football Association (DFB) is dreaming of hiring Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to lead the national team.

The German FA sacked Hansi Flick yesterday after the team's humiliating 4-1 home defeat against Japan on Saturday.

Several candidates are being considered for the role such as Julian Nagelsmann, Ralf Rangnick, Zinedine Zidane, Louis Van Gaal and Oliver Glasner.

However, the Reds boss who has always admitted that he would be inclined to coach his national team is on top of the shortlist.

Klopp has responded to recent reports, stating his work in England was not done.

He told Sky Germany as quoted by the Mirror: "The job of national coach is and would be a great honor - there's no question about that.

"The problem that stands in the way of the whole thing is my loyalty.

"I can't just leave Liverpool now and say I'll take over Germany for a short time. That doesn't work and the request isn't even there. If I'm supposed to do that at some point, then I have to be available and I'm not currently. I have a responsibility towards the club.

"Basically, it's an interesting job. But I don't know yet whether I'll do something completely different after I leave Liverpool. I want to keep my options open."

Klopp still has three more years left in his current deal with Liverpool.
