Norway’s Edvald Boasson-Hagen timed his sprint perfectly to claim the second stage of the Tour of Oman on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old looked in great shape and completed the 162km stage from Omantel to Quriyat in an impressive time of 4 hours and 12 minutes, edging out nearest rival Vincenzo Nibali by the narrowest of margins while overnight leader Bob Jungels endured a disappointing day and lost 59 seconds in the final climb.

This win sees Boasson Hagen lead Nibali by 4 seconds in the overall standings, giving him a major boost ahead of stage 3, a 176.5km trek from Al Sawadi Beach to Nasseem Park.
