Several of the most expensive transfers in world football history took place over the course of this summer's transfer window with the likes of Mesut Ozil, Neymar, Gareth Bale and Radamel Falcao all leaving their former clubs for greener pastures.
The summer and winter transfer markets allow clubs to improve their squads by signing new players and saying goodbye to other players. Big money transfers dominate headlines these days, as was the case with Gareth Bale's move from Tottenham Hotspur to Real Madrid. The transfer dragged on all summer and into the start of the Premier League season, but the deal was eventually done, making him the most expensive transfer in the history of the game.
