Syria’s Wrestling Team Finishes Second in Mediterranean Championship in Algeria

Syria’s Freestyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling team finished second in the Mediterranean Championship, wrapped up on Saturday in Algeria, with 6 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals.

In freestyle wrestling, 4 gold medals went to wrestlers: Amr Sarem (110 kg category), Mohammed Fidaa Eddi al-Asta (74 kg category) and Ibrahim Tabba’ (55 kg category) respectively. Wrestler Ahmed Khanati won the silver medal in 65 kg category competitions while Abdullah Waheed got a bronze medal in 55 kg category.

In Greco-Roman wrestling tournaments, wrestler Fawzi al-Hassan seized the gold medal in 67 kg category and Mohammed Fawwaz won the gold medal in 55 kg category. Sliver medals went to wrestlers Abdul Kareem al-Hassan (66 kg category) and Ali Nshaiwati (92 kg category) respectively. While wrestler Ahmed al-Nakdali got the bronze medal in 51kg category

Chairman of the Wresting Federation, Ahmed Jumaa, hailed the adorable performance of the team, adding that this competition serves as a starting point to participate in upcoming events such as the Arab Championship scheduled in mid-April in Iraq, the Youth Olympic Games in Argentina, the ASIAD (Asian Games) in Indonesia and the Mediterranean Games in Spain.
