Former Paris Saint-Germain defender Sergio Ramos has revealed the reason behind turning down a big money move to Manchester United in 2015.
The Real Madrid icon returned to his boyhood club Sevilla in a free transfer after the end of his PSG deal.
The Spaniard spoke about the chance he had to join United eight years ago while at Real Madrid.
Ramos said as quoted by Mirror: "I stayed where I should have stayed, Real Madrid, but was indeed close to playing for United.
"It was not to be, but I do keep that admiration for the club, to the Premier League and the players, because the rhythm of play and the pace is different. It's a league we can learn a great deal from.
"That was not meant to be. I was glad to stay in Madrid and now I'm glad to be in Sevilla."
Ramos signed a one-year deal with the Andalusian club in the summer and has featured in seven appearances thus far this campaign across all competitions.
