The chief organizer of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Alexei Sorokin, is considering running for a place in the decision-making council of the ruling body FIFA.
Sorokin told the R-Sport news agency Thursday: "It would be a big honour if the Russian football federation nominates me."
Sorokin said it was important that Russia doesn't lose its place on the FIFA Council.
He is seeking the take over from Deputy Prime Minister Vitali Mutko who can not run again because of his political function. Mutko is the president of the Russian football federation.
So far three men are bidding for four European vacancies on the FIFA Council at the UEFA Congress on April 5 in Helsinki: Sandor Csanyi of Hungary, Costakis Koutsokoumnis of Cyprus and Montenegro's Dejan Savicevic.
