Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has reportedly hinted at a quick exit from the Premier League champions after he removed the name of the club from his Twitter account.

Despite United insisting he is 'not for sale', Rooney appears to have attempted to speed up the process by removing ' Manchester United' from his Twitter account, with it now just reading "@NikeUK athlete", the Daily Star reports.

According to the report, Rooney had asked to leave United once before three years ago, as he flirted with a switch to rivals Manchester City, adding that the former Everton star's relationship with Sir Alex Ferguson never fully recovered from that episode.

And, earlier this season, Rooney was reported to be furious at being dropped for United's Champions League clash against Real Madrid in favour of Danny Welbeck , the report added, for which he has again made insistent noises about leaving United.

The report further said that another reason behind Rooney's decision to leave United may be Ferguson announcing his preference for Everton boss David Moyes as his successor as Moyes took Rooney to court in 2008 over claims the player made about his former manager in his autobiography, although both of them had a reconciliation later on.
