A brace from Egyptian Mohamed Salah helped Roma pummel Fiorentina 4-1 Friday to move within two points of second-place Napoli in the Italian Serie A.
The Rome Giallorossi clinched a seventh successive win for a tally of 56 points from 28 games while La Viola remained fourth on 53.
Napoli play Saturday at home to Chievo, while leaders Juventus (61) visit Atalanta Sunday.
"The three points are important and the way we got them was great," Roma forward Miralem Pjanic said.
"We are happy, but must not stop. Tonight we played against a tough opponent and [beside the attack] our defence and midfield played well. It was a good game for us. We had fun and got three important points."
Fiorentina started briskly at Rome's Stadio Olimpico with two high efforts from Josip Ilicic, but fell behind in the 22nd minute as Stephan El Shaarawy flicked in a low cross from Salah, who three minutes later had his shot deflected by Davide Astori to stun Ciprian Tatarusanu.
The Romania keeper was in trouble on 27 minutes as Astori's back pass set up Diego Perotti for a low shot that came off the post, and stood no chance 11 minutes later when the Argentine laid in off El Shaarawy.
Nikola Kalinic missed an overhead attempt before his striking companion Ilicic pulled one back from the spot kick just before half-time following Lucas Digne's foul on Cristian Tello.
An effort from la Viola's Facundo Roncaglia flew wide on 48 minutes and 10 minutes later Salah netted his second when he stormed in on the right to turn the ball in under Tatarusanu's legs.
Roma came close to a fifth in the last minute when veteran substitute Francesco Totti's free-kick scraped the left post.
