Coming off a win in their first friendly of a week-long European trip; Felix Sanchez led Qatar will be looking to maintain their recent winning form when they take on Iceland at Kehrwegstadion Stadium in Eupen, Belguim, on Monday.

Last week Akram Afif scored late in the second half to help Qatar to a famous 1-0 victory over Switzerland in an international friendly played at Lugano, Switzerland.

After making a splash in their first foray into international football tournaments in Euro 2016; Iceland (ranked 36th in FIFA Rankings) made their first World Cup appearance last summer, but failed to progress beyond the challenging Group D, which saw them pitted against Croatia, Argentina and Nigeria.

The international friendly will serve as another episode of Qatar's friendly series against top-50 ranked sides in the world.

Qatar's win over Switzerland was a landmark and symbolic result in many ways as it was the first time Qatar had beaten a European team in their own country.

The victory, almost four years to the day before the 2022 World Cup begins, was perhaps the first sign that Qatar is catching up with more established football powers.

Qatar played two friendly matches in October, scoring a 4-3 win over Ecuador on the 12th in Doha. This was followed by a 0-2 defeat to Uzbekistan four days later in Tashkent.

Coach Felix Sanchez will be looking to test his players against formidable opposition in a bid to form a powerful side in the build-up to the 2019 Asian Cup set to take place next January in the United Arab Emirates.

In the 2019 Asian Cup, Qatar will be playing against Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and North Korea in Group E.
