International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach praised today the Qatari strategy of promoting sports and its impact on supporting the Olympic movement

In his speech at the opening of the ANOC general assembly meetings, Bach congratulated Qatar Olympic Committee on breaking two records in last summer's Olympics.

The first was participating with the biggest delegation in Qatar's history, the second was getting the best Olympics results ever during Rio 2016. This was clear in Qatar's silver medal achieved in high jump, Bach said.

Bach maintained that Qatar's role in sports is not just limited to a successful Olympic delegation or hosting major sporting events, but extends to the role it plays in promoting sports in society. It is clear in Doha that sports is part of the educational process and improving health, sciences and Qatari universities.

President of IOC said that athletes from around the globe come to train in Qatari academies due to its commitment to sports and youth in Qatar and worldwide. Bach also thanked Qatari authorities for their commitment to sports. He also thanked the Qatari leadership for hosting the delegations participating in the general assembly in Doha.
