Sheikh Salim al Wahaibi, the president of the Oman Football Association (OFA) has been nominated into the FIFA standing committees on Thursday.
Wahaibi has been made a member of the Associations Committee, one of the nine standing committees of the FIFA, the world football governing body.
The nine standing committees report to the FIFA Council, advising and assisting the council in their respective fields of function. Besides the Member Associations Committee, the other committees are Development Committee, Finance Committee, Football Stakeholders Committee, Governance and Review Committee, Medical Committee, Organising Committee for FIFA competitions, Referees Committee and Players' Status Committee.
The Associations Committee shall deal with relations between the FIFA and its members and draw up proposals for optimum cooperation. The committee shall also monitor the evolution of the statutes and regulations of the FIFA, the confederations and members.
The president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Issa Hayatou is the chairman of the Associations Committee, which has a deputy chairwoman and 16 members.
The standing committee members have a term of office of four years.
