Muscat-based Belgian national Pierre Breuer won the Al Mouj Muscat Marathon 2017 on Friday, completing the race in a time of two hours, 42 minutes and 51 seconds.

Asta Parker, an Oman-based Icelander, was the winner in the women's category, winning the race in a time of 3h23m46s.
Omani runners dominated the other two categories - half-marathon and 10km - winning the respective titles.
Oman's Amer al Amri finished behind Breuer in the open marathon. Abdullah al Qarini claimed the half-marathon title, while Irene Ng'Eno won the women’s half-marathon.
Yunos al Jabri won the 10km run and Maria Markovicova raced to win in the women’s event. Near-perfect conditions welcomed more than 1,000 runners at the Al Mouj Muscat where a large number of enthusiasts were present to cheer the participants.
H E Maitha al Mahrouqi, the Undersecretary at the Ministry of Tourism and also the Chairwoman of Oman Sail, said, “An event like this where we have participation from Oman and the region is very important for tourism, promoting sports in the country and working with the government's vision to support sport. We hope in the coming years, it will be even bigger.”
The sixth edition of the Muscat Marathon has broken all previous records with an unprecedented number of entries after Oman Sail and Muscat Road Runners (MRR) joined forces to expand the event.
David Graham, CEO of Oman Sail, said, “Muscat is a fantastic place for a marathon, especially at this time of year when the conditions are perfect for runners. For future years, we have big ambitions for the race which I am confident will come to fruition, as the government and the ROP have been fully supportive and have confirmed their future support.”
