Manchester United is pulling out all stops to re-sign Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo by reportedly calling on their sponsors General Motors (GM) to fund a 55 million pound-deal with the Portuguese star through their brand Chevrolet.
Although United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has played down the possibility of Ronaldo's return to Old Trafford, sources close to the player insist the player is keen to leave the Bernabeu despite scoring the winning goal against his former club in Tuesday's Champions League clash, the Mirror reports.
American car giants GM, who are due to start sponsoring United in a 55 million pound-a-year deal through their brand Chevrolet from the 2014-15 season, are working with United's owners, the Glazer family, to help fund the Portuguese superstar's 55 million pound transfer fee and 10 million pound-a-year wages.
GM want United to sign a marquee player who would also act as a global ambassador for their company and Ronaldo fits the bill, the paper added.
This comes after United's meeting with Nike officials to plot a sensational 65 million pound worth swoop for Ronaldo, which could reunite the Real Madrid star with Wayne Rooney, who Alex Ferguson has vowed will be a United player next season. (ANI)
