Oman Swimming Association (OSA) chairman Taha al Kishry was re-elected as the president of the Arab Swimming Federation (ASF) on Saturday.
With Kishry being the only candidate in fray, his election for a new four-year term was a formality at the ASF general assembly, which was attended by 17 countries, in Muscat. The ASF general assembly also welcomed Sudan as its latest member.
Khalid al Zubair, the Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) president, was named as the honorary chairman of the ASF.
The general assembly was attended by representatives of UAE, Algeria, Iraq, Kuwait, Jordan, Djibouti, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Sudan, Yemen, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt and Palestine.
Speaking after his re-election, Kishry said, “I am honoured to be given the trust to lead the Arab Swimming Federation once again.
“During the past term, we have achieved success in many fields with the support of all and we would like to continue the good work to improve the sport in the Arab countries.”
Besides Kishry, the three vice-chairmen - Ali Khalaf (Algeria), Ibrahim Nadah (Jordan) and Hamid al-Ghareeb (Kuwait) - were also elected unopposed.
Seven candidates were in fray for the five seats as members. The successful candidates were Abdullah al Wahibi (UAE), Sarmad Abdel-Ella (Iraq), Mohamed Haroun (Egypt), Khaled al Khulaifi (Yemen) and Rachid Abu Zeid (Morocco).
