Jannik Sinner defeats Daniil Medvedev to claim Australian Open title

Italy's Jannik Sinner won the Australian Open on Sunday after a 5-set victory over Russia's Daniil Medvedev.

The Italian defeated his opponent in five sets 3-6 3-6 6-4 6-4 6-3 to claim his first ever Grand Slam title.

The 22-year-old only lost one set in the competition prior to facing Medvedev in the final.

The Italian knocked World No. 1 Novak Djokovic and ended his 33-match winning streak in the semi-final.
