Iraq hold Denmark in Olympic opener, Algeria beaten by Honduras

Algeria’s men’s football team lost its Rio 2016 Summer Olympics tournament opener on Thursday. Honduras beat the Algerians 3-2 in a match played at Engenhão stadium, Rio de Janeiro.

Another Arab national team, Iraq, drew a scoreless tie with Denmark in a match held at Mané Garrincha stadium, Brasília.

Next Sunday (7), Iraq will face Brazil, which played this Thursday and also had a 0-0 tie with South Africa. The game will be played in the federal capital. Algeria will face Argentina at Engenhão, also on Sunday.

The men’s and women’s football tournaments have started before the official opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, scheduled on Friday (5).
