Pep Guardiola has moved to clarify Ilkay Gundogan’s future, confirming that the midfielder will remain a part of Manchester City’s plans for the upcoming season.

Following Manchester City’s win over Crystal Palace, manager Pep Guardiola addressed growing speculation about the future of key midfielders. While Kevin De Bruyne is set to depart, Guardiola made it clear that Ilkay Gundogan is staying.

“The Gundo we saw today, the one against Bournemouth and Leicester—that’s the Gundo I remember,” said Guardiola after the match.
“The one who helped us win the Treble and the quadruple. His defensive awareness, his timing in attack—it makes a huge difference.”

Guardiola Counting on Gundogan for Next Season

The Spanish manager praised Gundogan's consistency and intelligence on the pitch, adding that the midfielder still has plenty to contribute.

“Everyone went through a dip in form, but when the team performs well, individual levels rise. Without that, it's impossible to succeed.
What will happen in the future, I don’t know—but right now, Gundogan has one more year on his contract.”

Guardiola's comments come as reassurance for City fans amid uncertainties surrounding the squad’s reshuffle.

Gundogan’s Experience Still Valued at City

Now 33, Gundogan remains a crucial figure in Guardiola’s system, especially in light of De Bruyne’s departure. His leadership, tactical intelligence, and ability to control the midfield continue to make him an asset for Manchester City.
