Former Zamalek coach Ihab Galal has been named as the new boss of Ahli Tripoli, the Libyan club announced on Saturday.

Galal has penned a one-year contract with Ahli, who did not disclose any financial details.

"I'm eager to start a new experience with one of the biggest Arab teams," Galal told a news conference on Saturday.

"We will participate in African and regional tournaments and this is a motivation for me to win a title with Ahli."

The 50-year-old coach resigned from his post as Zamalek boss towards the end of last season after four months and 16 matches in charge.

Ahli Tripoli, 12-time winners of the Libyan league, finished third in the premier domestic competition last season.

The club is known for a tendency to hire Egyptian managers such as Hossam El-Badry, Talaat Youssef, tarek El-Ashry and Ihab Galal.
