Everton are considering a January loan approach for Wigan goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi after Tim Howard's injury setback.
Roberto Martinez had initially earmarked Al-Habsi as a potential summer acquisition, when he could move to Goodison Park on a free transfer, but a calf injury sustained by the USA international – which could keep him out for up to six weeks – may accelerate a deal for the Latics goalkeeper.
However, a potential stumbling block is that of the Asian Cup, with Al-Habsi set to feature for Oman in this January's competition in Australia, meaning he is unlikely to return to England until the end of the month.
West Ham, Hull City and Real Sociedad are also believed to be keen on signing Al-Habsi in the summer, but Martinez enjoys a good working relationship with Wigan, having previously raided his former club for the likes of Arouna Kone and James McCarthy.
Wigan are currently 23rd in the Championship, having won just one of their last nine games.
