Tens of thousands of spectators are expected to flock to Bahrain International Circuit (BIC), in Sakhir, over the coming days to witness the biggest event in motor sport.
Action on the track gets underway today, as Formula One teams participate in a practice round at the circuit from 2pm.
Qualifying for the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix will take place at 6pm tomorrow, culminating in the 57-lap race on Sunday at 6.10pm.
Other competitions taking place over the weekend are the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East and FIA Formula 2, with races scheduled on both Saturday and Sunday.
An F1 Village, offering an array of entertainment, opened yesterday and will continue from 10am to 11pm daily until Sunday.
Music fans also have much to celebrate with performances by world-renowned DJs Martin Garrix and Kygo lined up today and tomorrow respectively.
Today’s concert starts at 8.45pm, while tomorrow’s gets underway at 7.30pm.
Meanwhile, final preparations for the racing took place yesterday, with a medical drill held for emergency personnel.
The drill involved a simulated crash in which both a driver and race martial were considered to have been injured – and a helicopter was used to airlift them to hospital.
