Edin Dzeko has told his Manchester City team-mates it’s a case of all or nothing in their Champions League clash with Ajax tonight.
Once again the Premier League champions find themselves struggling in Europe having taken only a point from their first two games against Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.
City were dumped out at the group stages last year and the team’s star striker has told his fellow City slickers they have to win both their matches against Dutch giants Ajax, the first of which takes place tonight in Amsterdam, or face the possibility of history repeating itself.
“I think it’s an important game, we have to win if we still want to be in the game,” Dzeko said.
“It is difficult, I think we didn’t start very well again this year as we only have one point and I think this game will be crucial.
“If we win then we play against them again at home and maybe if we get six points it will be different - much better for us.”
Four-time European champions Ajax currently lie last in Group D having been beaten by both Real and 1997 champions Dortmund.
Meanwhile, Spanish champions Madrid need to shake off their abysmal away form in Germany when they face Dortmund tonight.
Jose Mourinho’s men won their opening pair of clashes in Europe but travel to the Westfalenstadion with only one victory in 23 games in Germany against German opponents. The Spanish giants have lost 16 of those with the lone victory coming at Bayer Leverkusen in 2000. However, Dortmund also need to break a hoodoo - they haven’t beaten a Spanish side at home in five matches.
