Manchester City signed Belgium international Kevin de Bruyne from Wolfsburg Sunday for a Bundesliga record fee.

De Bruyne, recently voted Germany's footballer of the year, is joining ther Premier League side with immediate effect on a six-year deal.

Although the clubs have not released details of the transfer fee, German media have reported it could be at least 75 million euros (85 million dollars), easily a Bundesliga record.

De Bruyne, 24, will wear the number 17 shirt and is the latest City signing this summer after Raheem Sterling, Fabian Delph and Nicolas Otamendi.

"I want to reach the highest level possible as a player and I think the most important thing is that at the end of the season we can be happy and maybe have some titles," De Bruyne was quoted as saying on the City website.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini said: "We are very happy to have added Kevin to our team and I have no doubt that he will be a big success on his return to the Premier League.

"It takes a special footballer to improve our squad and I have no doubt that Kevin is certainly one of those - he has all of the mental, physical, tactical and technical attributes required to fit straight in.

"We like to play attractive, attacking football and bringing in a player like De Bruyne will only aid us as we fight on four fronts."

Wolfsburg sports director Klaus Allofs said: "We would have liked to have continued with Kevin but we have now agreed to his wish to move to Manchester City."

De Bruyne's transfer fee is well above the previous record of 41 million euros Liverpool paid Hoffenheim in June for Roberto Firmino.

Wolfsburg have immediately acted to stengthen their squad, signing Brazil central defender Dante from Bayern Munich Sunday for a reported 4.5 million euros.

According to Sky Sport News HD, Wolfsburg have also agreed to sign Schalke's Germany international Julian Draxler, who has also been linked with a move to Juventus.

However Schalke said Sunday a deal had not been reached.
