A Brazil police bomb squad conducted a controlled explosion of an unattended backback near the course of the Olympic cycling road race on Saturday.
A policeman on site told reporters that the backpack abandoned on a container near the finish area at the Copacabana contained only clothes and other goods.
The explosion was heard in the area but did not affect the cyclists, and things returned to normal quickly after police had temporarily cordoned off the area.
"It's the protocol we follow when there is a package of these characteristics that, this time, contained just clothes and other items. It was not a backpack bomb," the police officer said.
