Manchester City have been hampered by defensive injuries on multiple occasions this season and they could be looking to give themselves from aide in that department according to recent transfer reports.

According to TalkSPORT, the Citizens are targeting 25-year-old Argentine defender Nicolas Otamendi.

The FC Porto star has seen his stock continue to rise in Portugal and is believed to think that a move to the Premier League will only help his chances at a World Cup place with his country this coming summer.

However, City are not the only Premier League club said to be interested in the player as Chelsea are also believed to be in the hunt to add some more defensive depth as the Blues truly only seem to rely on three centerbacks in the form of John Terry, Gary Cahill and David Luiz.

With a strong second half needed and solid depth for both multiple domestic fronts and the European stage, Jose Mourinho will look for more support.

Comments from Otamendi in the Portuguese Record show he is committed to his side but would be open to a move:

"My mind is at Porto and continuing to play here. I want to do my job to the best of my ability. Porto draws attention around the world and these rumours still exist.

But I'm glad they speak well of me, that means I do things well. If an opportunity presents itself, I'll think. I will continue to help Porto.

I do not think changing clubs in January would harm me in the context of the World Cup. I always want to do my best, wherever I play."

Lastly AS Monaco could also be interested in the player having already signed a number of former Porto players in the last few transfer windows and there is a strong chance of a bidding war between three of Europe's biggest financial backed clubs.
