Interim Chelsea boss Rafa Benitez who has watched his Blues side storm into the Capital One Cup semi-finals, said that only winning will make him popular at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues put on a five-star show against old foes Leeds at Elland Road as they bounced back from Sunday's Club World Cup final failure against Corinthians in Japan.

Yet despite his team turning on the style not once was his name sung - and he faces an ongoing fight to win the Stamford Bridge popularity contest, the Daily Mirror reports.

"When you win games, it will be easier getting everybody together. We talked about showing character at half-time and the reaction was fantastic," Benitez said.

"Every competition is important for us. A top side has to try to win and now we are close to Wembley. I was pleased that coming back from Japan, with the jet-lag and without sleeping too much, the players were still fantastic. We are doing well in attack, but we can improve," he added.

Benitez remained tight-lipped on Liverpool target Daniel Sturridge's future amid news that negotiations have ground to a halt, and admitted that injured skipper John Terry was not ready to be involved again, the report said.

He added: "One day he's fine, the next day the knee has some trouble. Whether it's a week or three days (before he is ready), we don't yet know." (ANI)
