A sequel of Instagram video grab of Qatar’s star high jumper Mutaz Essa Barshim shows his winning return to competition, standing on the top of the Grand Prix of Sopot in Poland on Sunday.

The reigning world champion had injured his ankle last year and this was his first competition.

Significantly, Sopot was the venue five years ago when Barshim had won the gold medal of the World Indoor Championship with a 2.38m clearance.

The 2016 Rio Olympics silver medallist soared over 2.15m, 2.21m and 2.24m in first attempt.

But he needed two tries to go over 2.27m. He opted for 2.33m after missing 2.30m twice. He could not beat the height and had to settle for the 2.27m as his best.

Malaysia’s Nauraj Singh Randhawa took the second spot at 2.24m, while Ukraine’s Vadym Kravchuk managed his person best of 2.21m to land the third spot.
