However, the youngster was handed the No. 10 shirt at his Club in a move that may suggest he will not be leaving Bilbao anytime soon.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano says the Blaugrana has begun to discuss other names.
Meanwhile, Catalan outlet Mundo Deportivo insists that Barca will not be giving up on Williams, but are looking at alternatives elsewhere.
The names that are being mentioned are Liverpool's Luis Diaz, Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman and AC Milan's Rafael Leao.
Barcelona has already signed Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig for around €60 million, and are ready to pay the same amount for their next acquisition.
