Oman's Abdullah al Zubair claimed a third-place finish in the GCC team drivers' category at the recently-concluded Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge 2018.
Racing along with his co-driver Faisal al Raisi in their Toyota Hilux T1 car, they finished 22nd in the overall championship that featured 40 teams.
The race was part of the World Cross-Country Championship. The race began from the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi.
Also competing in the rally was Abdullah's father, Al Zubair Mohammed and his co-driver Mohammed al Zadjali in a Jeep Wrangler. The duo finished fourth in the GCC teams section and 28th overall.
Due to mechanical problems Abdullah was forced out in two of the five stages but finished a creditable overall 15th on the last day to boost his rankings.
Abdullah said, “I am very happy with the result obtained despite the problems I encountered in the challenge. I thank my supporters, mechanics and Omantel for their support and I will try my best for better results in future races.”
