The Jewish synagogue is located in the heart of Alexandria, Egypt, in a neighbourhood once considered working class, Kom El-Deka. Khaled Anany, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, reopened the synagogue on Friday, 10 January. The six and a half centuries old Eliyahu Hanavi synagogue was opened after two years of intensive restoration work. The synagogue is located on 4200 metres land. It is one of the only two synagogues in Alexandria, and one of the only 11 Jewish buildings in Egypt. Eliyahu Hanavi is believed to be a Hebrew prophet.
