Violent Clashes in Catalonia After Separatists Detention

Published October 22nd, 2019 - 06:46 GMT

Massive clashes flared up in Barcelona between police and angry protesters due to the arrest of Catalan separatist leaders.

The Spanish Supreme Court earlier jailed 9 Catalan separatists two hard terms in prison stemming from government attempts to declare independence two years ago.

Thousands of people held vigils near the Spanish government offices in Catalonia's four provinces. Spain responded by arresting over 51 people overnight across Catalonia.
