Turks Frustrated Over Botched Heritage Renovations

Published December 4th, 2020 - 07:47 GMT

Turkey is conducting sloppy restoration work for damaged, disfigured old heritages. However, experts reveal the work is affected by profits, ideological considerations and favouritism which cause sensitive upkeep of cultural heritage by the wayside in Turkey.

Turkey decided in August to renovate the Galata Tower which is an emblematic 14th-century Istanbul landmark, but it has soon caused a major dispute in the country.

Turkey's Culture Minister Nuri Ersoy tried to settle things adding the Galata Tower's destroyed section was not an original part and he imposed "sanctions" against the construction chiefs for using heavy-duty equipment.
