A wild fires raged in the different mountainous region including in the Chouf village of Meshref and spread to a nearby university and elementary school on Monday.

The government quickly responded and more than 100 firefighters from 20 Civil Defense stations cooperated with the Army to extinguish the massive fire. At least one Lebanese Army helicopter was seen working to fight the blaze.

The regional head of the Civil Defense in Mount Lebanon Hussam Dahrouj said that difficulties were faced, owing to a number of landmines in the area, which date back to the 1975-1990 Lebanese Civil War.

Lebanese Interior Minister Raya Al Hassan said aerial assistance from Cyprus was needed to help extinguish the mass fires that started raging a day earlier.
